Course objectives:
  • Increase your overall knowledge and understanding of health and nutrition 
  • Become aware of the deceitfulness in today's thinking about food and health
  • Gain knowledge in reading food labels
  • Grow in spiritual wisdom of God's plan and design for healthy bodies (His temple)
  • Understand the rationale behind why we cook and eat healthful foods
  • Learn more about the economics of food (shopping, food choices, making your own seasonings, gardening, canning...)
  • Gain competence in food preparation and meal planning
  • Obtain delicious, healthful meal plans
  • Learn how to be hospitable
  • Learn how to host a themed party
  • Learn table etiquette
  • Learn about ways food can be used to help in the healing process of our bodies
  • Understand the role of particular nutrients
  • Learn to lead dinner discussions
  • Promote family togetherness
  • Learn and memorize God's Word
  • Be challenged to become a child of God, to know Him, obey Him, follow His ways, and grow to love Him


Healthy Home-Ec is based on an 18 week schedule that includes a reading selection on the first day of each week, followed by cooking the next 4 days of the week. Shopping lists are already made and organized for your convenience. The recommended foods and ingredients used in this curriculum are organic, preservative-free, whole grain and natural. Students can also earn a semester high school elective credit by completing this course. 


A few facts from the Healthy Home Ec book:

  • Americans consume about 170 pounds of sugar each year, leading to many illnesses.
  • Many of the foods you currently are eating may contain trans-fatty acids, artificial ingredients, preservatives, and other "added ingredients" that could be dangerous.
  • Certain foods contain healing ingredients.
  • It has been said that more children are harmed by what they eat than by drugs, alcohol and tobacco combined.
  • The Bible suggests foods to eat that are healthful, and foods to avoid.
